Corsairs' Kevin McGowan named ECAC Northeast
Goalie of the Week for second time in three weeks

(Dartmouth, MA) - UMass Dartmouth senior Kevin McGowan (Hingham, MA) had another busy
week in goal last week for the Corsairs, coming up with 40 saves in a 6-3 win over Salve Regina
and another 20 saves in a 4-1 win over Franklin Pierce College last Saturday.   In recognition of his
successful week, McGowan was named ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week today, the second time
in the last three weeks that McGowan has received the honor.

In the Corsairs' win at Salve Regina on Feb. 2, McGowan faced 43 shots on goal and turned away all
but three to lead the Corsairs to the victory.  Three days later, McGowan made 20 saves on 21 shots
in a 4-1 win over Franklin Pierce at Hetland Arena.  For the week, McGowan helped extend the Corsairs'
current winning streak to seven straight with 60 saves on 64 shots.

The win at against Franklin Pierce last Saturday lifted the Corsairs to 14-4 overall and 9-1 in the ECAC
Northeast, good for third place.

Since the Corsairs have returned to competition after the holiday break, McGowan has been red hot. 
He has played a key role in the Corsairs' seven-game win streak with some outstanding play in goal
coupled with the Corsairs potent offensive output.  Since the Corsairs returned from the holiday break,
UMass Dartmouth is 7-0-0, having outscored their opponents 47-12 in that stretch. 

During that seven-game win streak, McGowan has faced 170 shots on goal and allowed only 10 goals for
a saves percentage of .941.  McGowan's hot streak in goal has helped him lower his goals against average
to 2.73 and has his saves percentage at .904 in 18 games this season. McGowan leads the ECAC NE in
winning percentage at 14-4-0 (.778) and has moved up to third in goals against average

For his career, McGowan has a 48-13-1 overall record with a .782 winning percentage.  His career goals
against average is 2.88 with a .891 saves percentage.

UMass Dartmouth will be back in action tonight when the Corsairs face Wentworth Institute in an
important ECAC Northeast game.  Wentworth is tied with Curry College for first place with 21 points on
identical 10-0-1 records. UMass Dartmouth holds third with 18 points and a 9-1 ECAC NE record. 
Johnson and Wales is fourth at 6-3 for 12 points
