#2 UMass Dartmouth taking on #1 Curry College in
ECAC Northeast championship game, March 5

(Dartmouth, MA) - The top two teams in the ECAC Northeast will battle it out for the conference
championship on Saturday and an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III national hockey
championship tournament.  #2 UMass Dartmouth (22-4), riding a 15-game winning streak, will
travel to #1 Curry College (18-5-3), winners of its last six games, on Saturday, March 5th for the
ECAC Northeast championship.  Game time at the Max Ulin MDC Rink in Milton, MA is set for 4:30 pm

After finishing second during the ECAC Northeast regular season with a 14-1 record, UMass Dartmouth
reached the championship game with a 4-1 first round win over #7 Salve Regina and an exciting 3-2
semi-final round win over #3 Wentworth Institute last Wednesday night at Hetland Arena.  Curry College
was the ECAC Northeast regular season champion with a 14-0-1 record and moved into the title game
following a 3-2 win over #8 Framingham State and an 8-2 semi-final round win over #4 Plymouth State
earlier this week.

The only blemish on the Corsairs' ECAC NE record came at the hands of Curry College on Dec. 4th.
The Colonels broke open a close 1-0 game after one period with three unanswered second period goals
enroute to an 8-1 victory in a game played at Hetland Arena in New Bedford.  In a game that included a
total of 70 penalties for 204 minutes, Curry outshot the Corsairs, 40-18, to hand UMass Dartmouth it's
only conference loss of the season.

The Corsairs' appearance in the ECAC NE championship game is the first since the 1998-99 season.
UMass Dartmouth lost a 3-2 overtime game to Fitchburg State at the end of the 1999 season, failing it its
attempt to win a third consecutive ECAC North-Central-South championships.  The Corsairs' last championship
came after a 4-2 victory at St. Michael's College to cap the 1997-98 season.

UMass Dartmouth has appeared in the ECAC ice hockey post season for the last 23 consecutive seasons,
capturing nine ECAC titles, including three consecutive championship banners in 1982-83, 1983-84, 1984-85.
UMass Dartmouth also captured ECAC championships in 1986-87 1988-89, 1992-93, 1994-95, 1996-97
and 1997-98.

Curry College enters the ECAC Northeast championship game for the second time in as many seasons.
After knocking UMass Dartmouth out of the ECAC NE semi-finals last year with an 8-3 decision, Curry
was defeated by Wentworth 5-4 in the 2004 championship game.  Although the Colonels didn't earn the
ECAC NE automatic berth following the loss, Curry College was invited to the NCAA Tournament as an
at-large team. The Colonels were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament after a 5-4 overtime loss to Plattsburg.

During the Corsairs' 15-game winning streak this season, UMass Dartmouth's offense has carried the
Corsairs' along with some stellar goaltending in the playoffs.  Junior Eric Frank (Waltham, MA), senior
Scott Trahan (Chelmsford, MA) along with goalie Kevin McGowan have been the backbone of the
UMass Dartmouth team during the streak.  Frank leads all NCAA II/III players in scoring with 24 goals
and 35 assists for 59 points in 25 games.  Trahan, who had been leading the nation in scoring before a
midseason injury kept him out of the lineup for three weeks, is second on the team with 19 goals and
19 assists for 38 points in 21 games. A two-time ECAC NE goalie of the week, McGowan is ranked 6th
nationally in winning percentage at .840 and has lowered his goals against average to 2.45.

In addition to the Corsairs' nationally-ranked scorers, UMass Dartmouth has been successful on offense
with five scorers in double figures for goal scoring.  In addition to Frank and Trahan, the Corsairs' well-rounded
offense has been led by Shane Relihan (New Bedford, MA) (14-21-35), Kyle McCullough (Danvers, MA)
(13-22-35) and Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ) (14-14-28). UMass Dartmouth averages 5.92 goals per game, while
allowing opponents to 2.46 goals per game.

UMass Dartmouth moved into the ECAC NE championship game after a 3-2 semi-final round win over
#3 Wentworth Institute. In front a large and enthusiastic home crowd at Hetland Arena, the Corsairs jumped
out to 2-0 first period lead on goals by Foley and Lindner. Little more than a minute into the second period,
McCullough scored what proved to be the game-winner for a 3-0 lead. Wentworth came back with a pair of
third period goals but couldn't get the game-tying goal past McGowan, who came up with several outstanding
saves in the final minutes of the game. McGowan was the #1 star of the game, making 26 saves to improve
his won-loss record to 21-4 on the season.

The Corsairs opened ECAC NE Tournament action with a 4-1 first round win on Feb. 26 at Hetland.
McCullough scored a pair of goals for UMass Dartmouth and McGowan allowed only one goal in making
30 saves for the victory.
