UMASS DARTMOUTH DEFEATS ASSUMPTION, 6-4

WORCESTER, MA– Sophomore forward Jeff Grant (Burlington, MA/Austin Prep) scored twice and added two assists while junior forward Kyle McCullough (Danvers, MA/Boston Jr. Blackhawks) added a goal and two assists as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team defeated Assumption, 6-4, in an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Northeast game at the Buffone Ice Arena Saturday evening.

Junior forward Jim Foley (Brockton, MA/Catholic Memorial HS) added three assists as the Corsairs won for the fifth consecutive time and sixth time in their last seven games.

 

After Frank Bova of Assumption opened the scoring at 3:10 of the first period, Grant tied it at 7:26, converting passes from McCullough and Foley. Freshman forward Nick Paquin (Warwick, RI/Winchendon Academy) gave UMD a 2-1 lead less than a minute later, at the 8:23 mark. Senior forward Ian Seaver (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Cathedral HS) made it 3-1 at 16:57 of the first period.

 

John Routhier of the Greyhounds opened the second period scoring at 4:41. Junior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Grant scored second period goals for UMD, giving the Corsairs a 5-2 lead after two periods. McCullough scored to ice it at 18:14 of the third period after the Greyhounds got goals from Drew Olsen and Luke McDonough to cut UMass Dartmouth’s lead to 5-4.

 

The Corsairs out shot Assumption, 45-32. Freshman goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Jr. Falcons) made 28 saves, while AC goaltender David Pinkham made 41.

 

UMD improved to 9-4-0  and 4-1-0 in ECAC Northeast Conference play with the victory, while Assumption fell to 2-10-0 and 1-3-0 in the ECAC Northeast Conference. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Wesleyan Tuesday evening.
