UMASS DARTMOUTH BLANKS WESLEYAN, 3-0
MIDDLETOWN, CT– Junior forward Ray Kirby (Fairhaven, MA/Salem State) scored twice and freshman goaltender Jon Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, MA/Springfield Junior Falcons) made 34 saves for his second shutout of the season as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s hockey team blanked Wesleyan, 3-0 at Spurrier-Snyder Rink Tuesday evening.
Kirby opened the scoring when he finished off an odd man rush, converting passes from junior forward Peter Lindner (Parlin, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and senior forward Eric Frank (Waltham, MA/Traverse City Enforcers) at the 12:18 mark of the first period. He scored again at 19:37 of the second period, and Lindner added an empty net goal at 18:05 of the third period.
Frank assisted on all three goals. The game marked the first time Wesleyan had been shut out this season.
The Cardinals out shot the Corsairs, 34-30. Dave Scandella made 27 saves for Wesleyan.
UMD improved to 10-4-0 with the victory and won their sixth game in a row and seventh in their last eight games, while Wesleyan fell to 2-7-1 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Western New England College Saturday.
