         UMASS DARTMOUTH FALLS AT WORCESTER STATE, 80-62

WORCESTER, MA– Worcester State’s men’s basketball team broke a 42-all halftime tie by outscoring outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 38-20 in the second half and went on to an 80-62 victory at Lancer Gym in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday evening.

The Corsairs, who made 16 of 34 shots from the field for 41.7 per cent in the first half, made just eight of 35 shots after intermission. WSC broke a 49-all tie in the second half with an 11-0 run and was never headed.

Senior center Charlie Large (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames HS) led the Corsairs with 14 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Paul Pawlowski (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) added 11 points, and junior Devon Maiorano (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth Regional HS) added 10.

Ryan Hopkins led the Lancers with 32 points, Tyson Drayton added 17 and Mark Retallic and Will Spont had 10 points apiece. Spont grabbed 12 rebounds as WSC out rebounded the Corsairs, 80-62.

UMass Dartmouth dropped to 1-2 with the defeat, while Worcester State improved to 2-1. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Bridgewater State next Tuesday evening.
