Men’s and Women’s teams

Captains: Men: Abdulgani Abdi, Jeff Caron and Jason VanVaerenewyck

Women: Carolyn Conroy and Lyndsay Nygaard

 

Post season awards: Abdulgani Abdi placed 17th at the NCAA Div. III Nationals in Hanover, Indiana to earn All-America honors, the first Corsair to earn such honors since 1995. Abdi covered the five mile course in 25:36. Abdi qualified for nationals with a 16th place finish in the New England Regionals. UMD men took 23rd out of 40 teams and the women were 25th out of 35 teams at the NE Regionals held in Cumberland, ME

Season highlights: UMD men took fourth in LEC/NE Alliance championships as Abdi placed third overall in 25:55. Women placed 9th overall  led by Carolyn Conroy in 9th place at 19:46.    Abdi placed 14th at the Open New Englands (all division s) held at Franklin Park in October with a time of 24:56.  Stephanie Hunt was LEC Women’s runner of the week (Sept. 29) as she finished second at the Ray Dwyer (Warwick, RI) Invitational, helping UMD to a third place finish.  Abdi earned LEC Men’s runner of the week (Sept. 22) after winning the UMD Invitational and helping UMD to an 11th place finish in the 26 team. Abdi was first in a field of 206 runners in 25:08. UMD women finished 11th at the UMD Invitational led by Hunt (30th place).
