UMass Dartmouth women’s 4x800 relay team breaks school record at NE Division III meet
(Dartmouth, MA) – The highlight of the 2002-03 indoor track and field season for the Corsairs came at the New England Division III Championships held in February at MIT. UMass Dartmouth’s 4x 800 relay team of Michelle Armstrong, Stephanie Hunt, Carolyn Conroy and Lindsay Nygaard placed 12th overall to qualify for the ECAC Division III championships and set a new record in the process.
Both UMass Dartmouth’s men’s and women’s indoor track teams placed seventh at the annual Alliance Championships held at the end of the 2002-03 indoor track season. Abdi Abdulgani (Brockton, MA) turned the Corsairs’ top performance, winning the men’s 3000 meters with a time of 8:59.9. Teammate Jeremy Nute (Westborough, MA) finished fourth at 9:03.26. Among the other top male performers were Clayton Gullat’s (Gardner, MA) fourth place effort in the men’s high jump at 6-1 1/2 and Will Smith’s fifth in the same event at 5-11 1/2 along with Michael Jordan’s (Pittsfield, MA) sixth place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.44). Gullat also had a fourth in the triple jump at 39-1 and Michael Young (Norton, MA) was fourth in the shot put at 41-0 1/2.
For the Corsair women, Stephanie Hunt (Shirley, MA) placed fifth in the 1500 meters in 4:59.52, while Lindsay Nygaard (Medway, MA) was fifth in the 3000 meters (11:20.31).
