CORSAIRS PERFORM WELL AT HARVARD

CAMBRIDGE, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s indoor track and field team turned in some good performances in their final meet of the fall semester Saturday.

No team scores were recorded at the annual Harvard Invitational at Gordon Track.

For the second week in a row, freshman Matt Gansenberg (Georgetown, MA/Hamilton-Wenham HS) broke the UMass Dartmouth indoor pole vault record. He finished seventh and vaulted 12 feet, six inches, which equaled his personal best.

Junior Brian Vatcher (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) also turned in a personal best, running 3000 meters in 9:09.74 and finishing eighth.

Two Corsair student-athletes qualified for the New England Division III Championships. Sophomore Katie Malloy (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) finished ninth in the high jump at 5-1. Freshman Jimmy Knuuttila (Lunenburg, MA/Lunenburg HS) was 14th at 60 meters in 7.37 seconds.

“The people who competed did well, and the purpose of the first two meets was to find out where everyone was before they leave for the holidays,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. “This will give people an idea of where they are before they go home and train. We won’t be at full strength until next semester.”

UMD will be off for the holidays, returning to action at the Brandeis Invitational January 14th.
