GARCIA, RELAY TEAM SET MARKS AT TRINITY LAST CHANCE MEET

NEW HAVEN, CT-Junior Brian Vatcher (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) had a personal best performance as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s indoor track and field team tuned up for the upcoming NCAA Championships at the Trinity Last Chance Meet at Yale University’s Coxe Cage.

Vatcher ran the mile in 4:25.11, finishing in fifth place. No team scores were recorded at the meet.

Junior Jon Garcia (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.59 seconds. Senior Clayton Gullatt (Gardner, MA/Gardner HS) was eighth in the high jump at 6-1 ½, and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Garcia, sophomore Sam Machuor (Newbury, MA/Triton Regional HS), sophomore Chris Botelho (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) and junior Yusef White (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) finished second in 3:23.00.

“Everyone competed well,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. “Brian Vatcher had a personal best time, and Jon Garcia got a chance to work on a few things in preparation for the NCAAs.”

Garcia will represent the Corsairs at next weekend’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.
