(Dartmouth, MA) – Senior tri-captain Kenny Seitles scored four goals to lead Roger Williams University to a 6-3 non-conference season-opening  victory over UMass Dartmouth in men’s lacrosse action at Cressy Field on Wednesday afternoon.

David Plescia and Doug D’Auria scored RWU’s other two goals, while the Corsairs (0-1) got individual goals from Ryan Leary, Jeff Boudreau and Joe Mirisola.  Tigger Knecht had a pair of assists for Roger Williams University (1-0).

RWU goalie Jamie McCoy picked up the win in net, stopping 20 shots, while Corsair goalie Jason Doyle came up with 27 saves in a losing effort.  The Corsairs were out shot by RWU, 33-23.

Roger Williams University opened the season with a 4-1 margin after the first period and took a 5-2 lead into intermission.  Neither team managed a goal in the third quarter and both teams added a single goal in the fourth quarter for the 6-3 final.

The loss ruined the coaching debut of UMass Dartmouth’s Kevin Mahoney. A former Corsair lacrosse and football player, Mahoney was an assistant coach for UMass Dartmouth before taking over the head coaching position prior to the 2004 season.

UMass Dartmouth will be back in action with another non-conference game this Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field against Curry College.  Game time is 12:30 pm
