UMASS DARTMOUTH LACROSSE FALLS TO SRU, 11-8
NEWTON MA–Lasell outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s lacrosse team, 10-1 in the third quarter and went on to defeat the Corsairs, 20-8, in a non-conference match at Grellier Field Tuesday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Mark Lapointe (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS) led UMass Dartmouth with three goals, while sophomore midfielder Nate Kirby (Sandwich, MA/Sandwich HS) scored twice. Sophomore attackman Bobby Young (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS), junior defenseman J.P. Desjardins (Rutland, VT/Rutland HS) and junior midfielder Ryan Trexler (Agawam, MA/Agawam HS) scored the other UMD goals, while freshman attackman Mike Duffey (Holden, MA/Wachusett HS) added an assist.
Al Zayac led Lasell with six goals, while Dar Winter and David Bulhoes each scored three times.
The Lasers led, 8-5 at half before their 10-goal third period outburst made it 18-6 after three quarters.
LC out shot the Corsairs, 41-32. Junior UMass Dartmouth goalkeeper Craig Britton (Ashland, MA/Ashland HS) made 10 saves, while Mark DiMieri of Lasell was credited with 19.
The Corsairs dropped to 1-5 with the defeat, while Lasell improved to 6-.1. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon.
