ECAC Div. III Men’s New England Championship Game: #6 Johnson and Wales @ #1 MIT, TBA
JWU advances in ECAC Tournament with 5-0 win over UMass Dartmouth
(Mattapoisett, MA) – Johnson and Wales University’s Brian Souza had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Engineers to a 5-0 victory over UMass Dartmouth in the semi-finals of the ECAC Division III Men’s New England Soccer Tournament Tuesday night in Mattapoisett, MA. The win moves the sixth-seeded Wildcats into the championship game at top-seeded MIT. The date for the championships game has not been set.
After a scoreless first half, the Corsairs’ Nick Szwaja received a red card at the ten-minute mark of the second half, forcing the Corsairs to play a man down for the remainder of the game. JWU wasted little time taking advantage of the situation, scoring its first goal two minutes later on Michael Glinecki’s unassisted goal at 47 minutes. Patrick Soderberg’s unassisted goal at 72:49 gave JWU a 2-0 lead and set the stage for the Wildcats’ next three goals in the game’s final three minutes.
The win improves JWU to 13-8-1, while the seventh seeded Corsairs finish at 12-7-1.
