CORSAIRS TAKE HOME OPENER IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
Vezina got his own rebound after taking a free kick from 25 yards away, and blasted a low shot past Laser goalkeeper Nate Walzer to end the match.
The Corsairs, who had scored rist, had to rally to tie the game and send it into overtime. Senior Tiago Pinto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford Voke HS) converted passes from sophomore Lee Soares (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) and sophomore Chris DaSilva (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS), tucking the ball home at the 66:15 mark to tie the score.
Soares gave UMass Dartmouth a 1-0 lead 35 seconds into the second half. He took DaSilva’s pass in front of the box and blasted home a shot to make it 1-0. But the Lasers scored twice within a minute and 21 seconds to take the lead. Zach Gagne converted a rebound of teammate Jon Filocco’s shot at 59:14 to tie the score, and Jeff Danso scored unassisted at the 60:35 mark to give Lasell a 2-1 advantage.
“I was very pleased that we won,” said Corsair Head Coach Ray Cabral. “I thought that if went .500 in the first four games, we would be OK. We’re getting our guys back, we’re getting healthy, and we’re getting used to a new formation. Now we have a break, and it will give us time to get ready before we start conference play.”
UMass Dartmouth improved to 2-2 with the victory, while Lasell dropped to 0-2-1. The Corsairs will be idle until they host
