WESTERN CONNECTICUT BLANKS UMASS DARTMOUTH, 2-0 IN MEN'S SOCCER ACTION ON SATURDAY

DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team

surpassed its win total of a year ago with a 2-0 victory over University of

Massachusetts Dartmouth at Westside Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon.

      The Colonials, now 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference

got on the scoreboard when Mike Serra (Naugatuck, CT) notched his third

goal of the season in the 16th minute.  He received a lead pass from Brad

Fidler (West Lawn, PA) in the middle of the box and slipped the ball inside

the right post for the 1-0 lead.

      Fidler, the team's leading scorer this season and a year ago when the

Colonials went 5-11-3, scored his ninth goal of the season in the 67th

minute to give WestConn a little breathing room.  He was led up field with

a 30 yard pass from Jordan Dugbartey (Naugatuck, CT).

      The Corsairs, 3-4 overall and 0-2 in league play did not get off

their first shot until midway through the second half.  WestConn finished

with a 22-9 shot advantage on the afternoon.

      Daniel Michalowski (Bristol, CT) earned his second shut out of the

season after making just one save for the Colonials.

      Kyle Fossey (Townsend, MA) and Adam Rolfe (Southwick, MA) combined to

make eight saves for the Corsairs.  Fossey made five stops before yielding

to Rolfe in the 72nd minute.

      WestConn host Connecticut College on Wednesday, September 28 at 7

p.m.
