   CORSAIR MEN’S SWIMMERS SEVENTH AT ECAC D3 CHAMPIONSHIPS

SYRACUSE, NY-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s men’s swimming team finished seventh as action concluded Sunday at the ECAC Division III Championships at the Max Newman Pool at Le Moyne College.

The Corsairs edged Stevens of New Jersey by one and a half points, finishing seventh of 11 teams in the final standings.

Among the highlights, senior Gino Leite (Fall Rover, MA/BMC Durfee HS) was 12th in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:35.04, 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.94, 11th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.39, and was a member of the 400-yard medley relay team that finished seventh in 3:54.06. Senior Garrick Wong (Needham, MA/Needham HS) was 17thg in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.49, 20th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.41, 12th in the 50 freestyle in 22.65 seconds, and was a member of the medley relay and freestyle relay teams.

Junior Adam Barkley (Berea, OH/Berea HS) was 24th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.42, 37th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.81 seconds, and was a member of the freestyle relay team. Junior Nicolas Almeida (Auburn, MA/Auburn HS) tied for 10th in the 50 freestyle in 22.59, and was a member of the medley relay and freestyle relay teams team. Junior Tom Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA/ Chelmsford HS) was 24th in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.66, 40th in the 50-yard freestyle in 23:29.4, and was a member of the medley relay and freestyle relay teams.

“I’m pretty happy with our times,” said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Dave Schneeweis. “We’ve been swimming pretty well, and we’ve been turning in a lot of good times.”

The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Eastern Connecticut State next Saturday.
