CORSAIR SWIMMERS DOWN ELMS, SALEM STATE

SALEM, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s swimming team made their second meet of the second semester a successful one Tuesday evening.
The Corsair women defeated Salem State. 63-29, and Elms, 72-27, while the men downed Salem State, 75-11, and Elms, 81-9, at the O’Keefe Sports Complex Tuesday evening.
Senior Seanna McRae (East Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) and junior Meagan Coache (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) each won three times to lead the Corsairs. McRae won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.04 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:22.48, while participating on the victorious 200-yard medley relay team, which finished first in 2:01.44.
Coache won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.53 seconds and was on the 200-yard freestyle relay team, which won in 1:51.33, as well as the 200-yard medley relay team.
Senior Kelly Kidd (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) won both the one-meter diving (234.10 points) and the three-meter diving (264.65). Sophomore Katelyn Chase (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:29.21 and was on the 200 freestyle relay team, senior Sarah Desjardins (East Freetown, MA/Apponequet Regional HS) was first in the 1000 yard freestyle in 12:20.12, freshman Katie Hogan (Lynn, MA/Lynn Classical HS) and Renee Krusznya were on the 200 medley relay team, and freshman Ashley Wong (Needham, MA/Needham HS) and senior Jessica Fallon (East Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) were on the 200 freestyle relay team.
Six men won at least two events, with sophomore George Aulson (Peabody, MA/Peabody HS) winning three. He was first in both the one-meter diving (209.95 points) and the three-meter diving (205.40 points), and was on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team, which finished first in 1:48.17.
Sophomore Frank Pearson (Niantic, CT/East Lyme HS) was first in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.37), and the 100-yard freestyle (11:18.50). Senior Garrick Wong (Needham, MA/Needham HS) won the 100-yard freestyle (50.79 seconds) and was a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay team (1:56.00). Junior Tom Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) won the 200 free (2:03.70) and was a member of the 200 medley relay team, junior Nicolas Almeida (Auburn, MA/Auburn HS) won the 50 freestyle (23.4 seconds) and was a member of the 200 medley relay team, and senior Jay Brinley (Melrose, MA/Boston College HS) was on both victorious relay teams.
Senior Gino Leite (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) won the 200-yard butterfly, while junior Peter Dibenedetto (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS) and freshman Patrick Raymond (Easton, MA/Oliver Ames HS) were members of the 200 freestyle relay team.
“We’re tired, but we’re still swimming decent times,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. “We are still improving. We’re hanging in there, and we have a tough schedule in the next couple of weeks.”
The Corsairs will return to action when they visit WPI Thursday evening.
