                                                   CORSAIR SWIMMERS FALL TO WHEATON

PROVIDENCE, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s swimming teams fell to visiting Wheaton at the Tripp Taylor Natatorium Saturday.

The Corsair women lost to Wheaton, 123-98, while the UMD men lost to the Lyons, 120-91.

UMass Dartmouth’s women won five events.

Senior Seanna McRae (East Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.75 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.73. She also was a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay team, which won in 2:01.37. Senior Kelly Kidd (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) won the one-meter diving competition with an NCAA qualifying score of 438.22 points, as well as the three-meter diving with a score of 267.15. Sophomore Hannah Blount (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket Hs), junior Meagan Coache (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and freshman Ashley Wong (Needham, MA/Needham HS) were also members of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team.

The men won three events. Sophomore George Aulson (Peabody, MA/Peabody HS) won both the one-meter diving (319.72 points) and the three-meter diving (214.95 points. Senior Garrick Wong (Needham, MA/Needham HS) won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.78 seconds.

“We swam well, although we’re still tired,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. “We’re still getting ready for the championships. Our times are getting closer to our best times of the season, and next week, we should be a little better. We’re on track to do well at the championships.”

The UMD women fell to 8-5, while the men fell to 5-6. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Plymouth State in a women’s meet Saturday afternoon.
