2004 Men's Tennis Championships

 UMass Dartmouth Wins 2004 LEC Men's Tennis Title
(PORTLAND, ME) – Freshman Chris Sims (Chelmsford, MA) captured the fourth singles champion at the 2004 Little East Conference 
Men’s Tennis Tournament on Saturday and teamed with senior  Brendon Bowers (Somerset, MA) in yesterday’s first day of competition 
to lift UMass Dartmouth to the LEC Men’s Tennis Tournament championship.  The two-day conference tournament was hosted by the 
University of Southern Maine at Deering Oaks Courts in Portland, ME.
 
Sims was a 7-5, 6-4 winner in the #4 singles final on Saturday, while teammates Bowers and sophomore Ryan Paul (Fall River, MA) 
earned valuable team points for the Corsairs despite losing in two LEC singles finals.  Bowers dropped the #3 singles championship, 
while Paul was the runner up at #6 singles.
 
In yesterday’s first day of action, Bowers and Sims helped UMass Dartmouth take the lead after the doubles events, by winning the #2 
doubles.  UMass Dartmouth also picked up points from two doubles runners up. Senior co-captains Dan Cohen (Chelmsford, MA) and 
Todd Cabral (Dartmouth, MA) were runners up in #1 doubles, and the team of sophomore Aidan Thompson (Middleboro, MA) and Paul 
were #3 doubles runners up.
 
The LEC Men’s Tennis Tournament championship is the eighth for UMass Dartmouth in nine years dating back to 1996, but the Corsair’s 
first  tournament championship since 2002.  The team championship is the first for second-year head coach Tom Mendell.
