Baseball Team Falls to Bridgewater State, 7-0

UMASS DARTMOUTH BASEBALL TEAM BLANKED BY BRIDGEWATER STATE

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Scott Favreau pitched a six-hit shutout as Bridgewater State defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team, 7-0, in a non-conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman shortstop Dave Ogorzalek (Rockfall, CT/Xavier HS) had two hits for the Corsairs.

The Corsairs threatened to score in the bottom of the first inning, when center fielder Sean Smolinsky singled and moved to third on Ogorzalek's double. But senior first baseman Dan Mancini flied to right, and BSC right fielder Dana Hansen threw Smolinsky out at the plate when he tried to score on the play. UMass Dartmouth loaded the bases in the eighth, but sophomore left fielder Dylan Zygmont (Swansea, MA/Case HS) struck out to end the inning.

BSC took the lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by center fielder Andrew Dillon. They scored once in the fourth on a wild pitch by UMD starter Parker Harrington (Sr. Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS) and again in the fifth on Hansen's RBI single, then put it away with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Harrington pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed 12 hits, taking the loss to fall to 0-1. Favreau walked two and struck out eight, pitching his first complete game of the season to improve to 1-3.

UMass Dartmouth fell to 3-7 with the defeat, while Bridgewater State improved to 7-7 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Wheaton Thursday.
