Baseball Falls to Roger Williams

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Roger Williams scored 13 runs in three at-bats early in the game and went on to a 17-6 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team in a non-conference game at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Thursday afternoon.
The Hawks scored four runs in the second inning, three more in the third and added six more runs in the fourth inning before UMass Dartmouth broke through.
Freshman designated hitter Kevin Raudonaitis' (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) sacrifice fly drove in the Corsairs' first run in the fourth. Junior catcher Mike Maclean (Spencer, MA/David Prouty HS) and Raudonaitis walked with the bases loaded and junior left fielder Evan Britto (Rochester, MA/Old Rochester HS) singled in a run in a three-run fifth, and sophomore Dylan Zygmont (Swansea, MA/Case HS) singled in a run in the sixth. Britto finished with four hits in five at-bats.
Travis Cooney doubled in a run in the Hawks' four-run second inning, Andrew Haycock hit a three-run homer in the third, and James Dahill, Kevin Simpson and Kevin Thompson doubled in runs and Haycock had an RBI single in RWU's six-run fourth. Haycock and Radd DeWeese each finished with four runs batted in. Haycock had five hits, and Travis Cooney and Andrew Lippincott each had three hits.
Lefthander Mike Malcolm, RWU's starter, went 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory, improving his record to 3-4. Senior lefthander Parker Harrington (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth HS), the first of four Corsair pitchers, took the loss and fell to 5-21.
UMass Dartmouth fell to 5-21 with the defeat, while RWU improved to 16-18 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Eastern Connecticut State in a Little East Conference doubleheader game Saturday afternoon, while the Hawks will host Bowdoin in a single game Friday.
