UMass Dartmouth and Roger Williams University to meet for Hampton Inn Basketball Classic title

(Dartmouth, MA) - Freshman Brian Cagle (Norwich, CT) scored 15 points along with 14 from junior Marques Houtman (New Bedford, MA) to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 73-45 victory over Fitchburg State College at the Hampton Inn Basketball Classic Friday night at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Corsairs (1-0) will face Roger Williams University for the tournament championship on Saturday, November 20 after the Hawks defeated Clark University, 81-70, in the tournament opener. Clark University and Fitchburg State College will meet in the 1:00 p.m. consolation game with the championship game set to go off at 3:00 p.m.

UMass Dartmouth opened its season with a balanced attack as three Corsairs hit for double figures. Besides Cagle (10 rebounds) and Houtman, junior Nick Cecilio (Centerville, MA) had 11 points. Freshman guard Tim Gaspar (Dartmouth, MA) had an impressive debut with 12 assists and seven points. Jason Anderson's (Sutton, MA) 16 points led Fitchburg State College (0-1).

Roger Williams University picked up its first win of the season behind Chris Bagdis' (Paxton, MA) 23 points. Chris Venino (Holmdel, NJ) (17 points, 5 rebounds) connected on five for five from three-point range, while Liam Carr (Glen Ridge, NJ) (11 points) and Andrew Provost (Burlington, VT) (10 points). Clark University's leading scorer was Rob Robledo (Newton, MA) with 21 points including three three-pointers. John Ginnity (Fitchburg, MA) added 10 points for the Cougars who fell to 0-1.
