CORSAIR SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER TO COMPLETE SPRING TRIP
ORLANDO, FL-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s softball team split the final two exhibition games on their spring trip.
The Corsairs won the first game of a doubleheader against Hudson Valley Community College Tuesday, 6-3, then dropped the nightcap, 9-3, at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. HVCC is a two-year school from New York. UMD won one of the six exhibition games on their trip.
Freshman pitcher Amie Nickerson (Wrentham, MA/King Philip HS) earned the victory in the opening game Tuesday, and junior outfielder Shannon Alberry (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) tripled with the bases loaded to drive in three runs in the fifth inning.
Freshman pitcher Brittney Kannan (Methuen, MA/Central Catholic HS) was the losing pitcher in the nightcap. Kannan drove in one run for the Corsairs, while senior infielder Amanda Leal (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) had two singles.
The Corsairs will return to action when they open their season at Fitchburg State next Tuesday evening.
