CORSAIRS DROP FIRST FOUR GAMES ON SPRING TRIP
ORLANDO, FL-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s softball team dropped the first four exhibition games on their spring trip.
The Corsairs fell to the College of DuPage, 4-2 and 8-2, Sunday, and then lost both games of Monday’s doubleheader to South Suburban College by identical 6-4 scores at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Both opponents are two-year schools from Illinois.
In Monday’s first game, UMD freshman pitchers Kathleen L’Abbe (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and Amie Nickerson (Wrentham, MA/King Philip HS) combined to give up only one hit. However, the Lady Bulldogs took advantage of eight walks. Freshman Brittney Kannan (Methuen, MA/Central Catholic HS) drove in a run for the Corsairs.
Kannan pitched the nightcap, striking out eight hitters and going one for three with a walk at the plate.
Kannan also took the loss on the mound in Sunday’s first game. Freshman outfielder Meghan Mansour (Methuen, MA/Central Catholic HS) and senior infielder Amanda Leal (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) each had two hits and drove in a run. Leal tripled in the nightcap, and L’Abbe had a hit and a sacrifice, while junior pitcher Shallana Medina (Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) was the losing pitcher.
The Corsairs will conclude their spring trip action with an exhibition doubleheader against Hudson Valley Community College of New York.
