Cash Griffith

Griffith was a professional athlete when he came to New England over a decade ago. Now, he’s a veteran of the assistant coaching staff at UMass Dartmouth.

A native of Miami, FL, Griffith attended South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC, where he played guard for the basketball team and caught for the baseball team. He then headed north, coming to Newport, RI to join the ranks of professional jai-alai players.

After four years, Griffith had to give up jai-alai due to an injury. He then began his coaching career, assisting with the softball team at Salve Regina. He also helped with the women’s basketball team, which was coached by current UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mick Klitzner. Griffith followed Klitzner to North Kingstown High School, where he served as an assistant for four seasons, and is now beginning his fifth year as a member of the Corsair women’s basketball coaching staff.

“I met Mick at Salve, and I’ve been with him for 11 years,” said Griffith. “I love coaching with Mick. I’ve learned a lot from him.”

Griffith also manages Jillian’s Ale House in Kingston, RI.

Merideth Morgan

Coaching is in Merideth Morgan’s family. So it’s no surprise that she is spending her final year as an undergraduate at UMass Dartmouth as an assistant coach for the team that she played for in each of the past four seasons.

Michelle Morgan, Merideth’s mother, is the women’s golf coach and senior women’s administrator at Amherst College. The former longtime women’s soccer coach at Amherst, Michelle Morgan has coached many sports through the years. “My mom was a coach for more than 30 years,” said Merideth Morgan. “She’s been an inspiration to me, and it’s been her passion, doing something she loves for years.”

Merideth Morgan played basketball for four years and softball for two at UMass Dartmouth. The starting point guard as a senior, she was a team captain, led the Corsairs in free throw percentage and was second in assists, and made the Dean’s List for academic excellence. She will graduate in May with a degree in photography.

“I was going to be around all year, and they needed another assistant coach,” said Morgan. “It’s been great so far.  Since I can’t play any more, I still wanted to be involved. I grew up watching UMass and Amherst College basketball games, I’m a big basketball fan, and this gives me a chance to stay involved.”
