2000-2001 Season Review




UMass Dartmouth women place fourth in New England Alliance Championship meet


(Dartmouth, MA) - UMass Dartmouth's women's indoor track team placed fourth in the annual New England Alliance Championship Meet held Feb. 13, 2000 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Coach Jon Hird's team posted a first, two seconds and three third-place finishes to take fourth place in a 10-team field consisting of teams from the Little East Conference and the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference.

Clinching an Alliance Championship in the 4x800 Relay team were sophomore Sarah Margarida (Westport, MA), senior Sonjya Hinman (Framingham, MA), sophomore Shelly Kenyon (Fall River, MA) and junior Erin McDonald (Greenfield, MA). The Corsairs' relay team combined for a seasonal best time of 10:42.29.

Kenyon also helped out her teammates with a second-place finish in the 1000 meters with a seasonal best time of 3:26.52. Sophomore Kelly O'Driscoll (Fall River, MA) added the Corsairs' other second-place finish with a seasonal best time of 11:13.75 in the 3,000 meters. Third-place finishes for UMass Dartmouth came from McDonald in the 1500 meters (season best 5:05.93) and two seasonal bests from sophomore Allison Enny (Whitehall, NY) in the shot put (33-11 1/2) and 20 lb weight (35-3).

McDonald, O'Driscoll and Enny were UMass Dartmouth's representatives at the New England Division III Championship Meet held Feb. 19 at Bates College in Brunswick, ME. Enny and O'Driscoll turned in a pair of 11th place finishes. Enny tossed the shot put 35-10 1/2, while O'Driscoll finished the 3000 meters at 19:19.49. McDonald finished with a 13th place in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:04.59.

Enny qualified for the ECAC Division III meet on March 4 at Wheaton College but did not place in the event. Her final shot put of the season was 34-6.
