UMass Dartmouth women defeat Babson in season opener, while men fall in their first meet of the year
(Dartmouth, MA) -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Swimming and Diving teams kicked off their 2003 season splitting meets held at Babson College.
On the ladies side, it was UMass Dartmouth winning the meet by a score of 134-103. The Lady Corsairs were led by three double winners, Andrea Desjardins (E. Freetown, MA) won the 1000 yd freestyle(12:04.16) and the 500 yd freestyle (5:49.49), Seanna McRae (E. Taunton, MA) in the 100 yd backstroke (1:03.93) and the 100 yd breaststroke (1:15.33), and Amy Stucchi (Westboro, MA) in the 100 yd butterfly (1:02.51) and the 200 yd individual medley (2:19.78). Stucchi teamed up with teammates Caitlin Magura (Milford, CT), Cassie Bryant (Ipswich, MA), and Meaghan Coache (New Bedford, MA) to win the 400 yd freestyle relay with a time of 3:56.29.
For the men, it was UMass Dartmouth falling to Babson College by a score of 110-89. The men received victories from Gino Escalante (Fall River, MA) in the 500 yd freestyle (5:25.21) and the 100 yd breaststroke (1:07.98), and Adam Barkley (Berea, OH) in the 100 yd backstroke (1:00.75). Barkley teamed up with James Newton (Marstons Mills, MA), Tom Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA), and Garrick Wong (Needham, MA) to win the 400 yd freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.76. The Corsairs next meet will be on November 8th at St. Michael’s College in Winooski, VT.
