SPRINGFIELD, MA- Junior Meagan Coache (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly as action continued on the second day of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association Championships at the Alumni Healthful Living Center at Western New England College Saturday.

Coache finished first in a school record time of 59.99 seconds and qualified for the ECAC Championships at Pittsburgh next weekend.

In trials action, Coache finished first in the 50-yard butterfly in 27.43 seconds, sophomore Katelyn Chase (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (5:01.38), and the 200-yard medley relay team of Coache, junior Seanna McRae (East Taunton, MA/Taunton HS), sophomore Hannah Blount (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket HS) and sophomore Renee Krusznya finished second.

For the men, senior Gino Leite (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) was second in the 400-yard individual medley trials in 4:31.76, junior Tom Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) was fifth (25.26 seconds) and junior Nicolas Almeida (Auburn, MA/Auburn HS) was sixth (25.54) in the 50-yard butterfly trials, junior Adam Barkley (Berea, OH/Berea HS) was sixth (58.24 seconds) in the 100-yard backstroke trials, and sophomore Frank Pearson (Niantic, CT/East Lyme HS) was sixth in the 1000-yard freestyle trials (10:39.28).

The championships will conclude Sunday evening.
