CORSAIRS FINISH 2ND, 5TH AT NEISA SWIMMING
SPRINGFIELD, MA- Junior Meaghan Coache (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) broke another school record as the New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association Division II and III Championships concluded at the Alumni Healthful Living Center at Western New England College Sunday evening.
Coache finished first in the 50-yard butterfly in a school record time of 27.08 seconds as the Corsair women finished second and the men finished fifth.
UMass Dartmouth finished second with 475 points in the 22-team women’s field, and fifth with 267 points in the 15-team men’s field. Bentley finished first in both fields.
The 50-yard butterfly record was the oldest standing school record that was set in the 1980s. Coache also finished sixth in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:06.07. Sophomore Katelyn Chase (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:21.80, and junior Seanna McRae (East Taunton, MA/Taunton HS was seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:38.87.
For the men, junior Tom Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.04, sophomore Frank Pearson (Niantic, CT/East Lyme HS) was fifth in the 1650 freestyle in 17:57.43, and senior Jay Brinley (Melrose, MA/Boston College HS) was sixth in the 100-yard individual medley in 1:01.06.
The Corsairs will return to action at the ECAC Championships in Pittsburgh next weekend.
