                                        UMD WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM DEFEATS CURRY, 9-0

 NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s tennis team swept a shorthanded Curry team, 9-0, at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday afternoon.

The Corsairs won the first four singles matches, clinching the victory, as the Colonels defaulted the number five and six singles matches. Sophomore Nicole Cross (Dunstable, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) and junior Natascha Tretter (Gloucester, MA/Bishop Fenwick) defeated CC’s Sandy Ethier and Dana Drysdale, 6-3, in a six-game pro set at number one doubles, which was the only doubles match that was played.

Freshman Noelle Judd (Burlington, MA/Burlington HS) defeated Ethier at number one singles, 6-0, 6-1. Senior Sarah Charwick (Palmer, MA/Palmer HS), freshman Becky Bullock (Wrentham, MA/King Phillip HS) and junior Katie Haepers (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS) also were victorious.

The Corsairs improved to 5-4 with the victory, while the Colonels dropped to 4-7. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Rhode Island College Saturday.

                  2-Sarah Charwick, UMD, defeated Dana Drysdale, 6-0, 6-1.

                  3-Becky Bullock, UMD, defeated Kate Ross, 6-4, 6-1.

                  4-Katie Haepers, UMD, defeated Stacey Hulbert, 1-6, 6-4, (10-8).

                  5-Nicole Cross, UMD, won by forfeit.

                  6-Natascha Tretter, UMD, won by forfeit

DOUBLES-1- Cross and Tretter, UMD, defeated Ethier and Drysdale, 6-3.

                   2- Kim Pham and Alecia Newton, UMD, won by forfeit.

                   3-Jess Sanderson and Allison DeAngelis, UMD, won by forfeit.
