VOLLEYBALL SPLITS AT ROGER WILLIAMS

Bristol, RI - In the final contest of the afternoon, the Hawks of Roger Williams University outlasted the Corsairs of U. Mass-Dartmouth in five matches (31-29, 19-30, 26-30, 30-28, 15-13) extending their current wining streak to seven in women’s volleyball action played at the Roger Williams University Campus Recreation Center on Saturday.
Hawks junior libero Ashley O’Keeffe (Griswold, CT) recorded 40 digs in the contest surpassing former RWU standout Megan Mahoney’s career digs record of 1,265 set in 2002. O’Keeffe now owns the record with 1,288 digs. In what turned out to be a back and forth affair, the Hawks came away with the win as senior captain Erin Carolan (Newtown, CT) and sophomore opposite Amy Maurer (Madbury, NH) each posted 17 kills to lead the offense. Freshman setter Kirsten Bosworth (Centerville, MA)tallied a career high in assists with 55, while junior Caroline Smith registered ten kills and ten digs in the win.
In the first match, Hawks junior outside hitter Caroline Smith (Taunten, MA) tallied seven kills and recorded a team high 15 digs to propel the Hawks past non-conference foe Massachusetts-Maritime Academy in a three match sweep (30-11, 30-25, 30-24). The Hawks led throughout each match as Hawks sophomore Randle Stock (Hopkinton, MA) notched a team high 17 assists, while freshman setter Kirsten Bosworth posted 14 in the win. In the middle contest, U. Mass-Dartmouth earned a three match sweep of Massachusetts-Maritime (30-19, 30-11, 30-19).
The Hawks (12-5) will play host to the Rhode Island Championship on Saturday (Oct. 15) as the matches will begin at 11:00 a.m., the field will include RWU, Johnson & Wales, Rhode Island College, and Salve Regina.
