CORSAIRS SWEEP ON OPENING NIGHT OF UMD INVITATIONAL
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth volleyball team has won their first two matches at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Tournament.
The Corsairs defeated Babson, 30-25, 30-12 and 30-17, and then downed UMass Boston, 30-18, 30-12 and 30-28 at the Tripp Athletic Center Friday evening.
Freshman middle blocker Hilary Teichart (Bourne, MA/Bourne HS) had 11 kills and five blocks against the Beavers, and added nine kills against UMB. Freshman libero Aly Zagame (Greenfield, MA/Greenfield HS) had 14 digs against Babson and 20 against the Beacons.
Against Babson, senior outside hitter Kerrie Mandeville (Walpole, MA/Walpole HS) had nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Nazareth Cardoso (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) had eight kills and junior setter Lauren Daly (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) had 39 assists against UMass Boston.
“We played very well,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jocelyn Costa. “Every team wants to win their own tournament. Hilary had a good night offensively, and Aly really stepped it up defensively.”
The Corsairs improved to 10-10 with the victories. They will conclude tournament action when they play Wentworth and Southern Maine Saturday.
