The Office of Multicultural Support and Assessment is designed to enhance the retention, personal development and educational success of students of color through various initiatives including:
* Student affairs research * College adjustment workshops * Financial assistance * Needs assessment * A Mentor program for first-year students.
In addition, the office works collaboratively with other departments in helping to build a supportive and inclusive campus environment that crosses boundaries of nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, socioeconomic class, and cultural diversity. To that end, we are actively involved in the development of diversity workshops and training sessions for students, faculty, and staff. An important premise governing these workshops is the belief that the development of multicultural skills and attitude can enhance one's consciousness and appreciation of differences associated with heritage, social characteristics, and cultural values. Equally important is the belief that diversity leadership is fundamentally essential in the development and maintenance an integrated learning environment characterized by dignity, civility, and openness to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of campus life.
We encourage members of the university community to join us in recognizing, appreciating, and celebrating the rich cultural diversity that characterizes the University. For more information on the programs and services provided through the Office of Multicultural Support and Assessment, please give a call to Norman Barber or Rachel Conley at (508) 999-8602 or stop by the office. We are located in Room 305 of the Administration Building. |
