"UMass Dartmouth has a highly ranked and reputable, accredited business school close to where I live. The university offers me the same opportunities as a school in Boston, but without the cost.."
Viviana is involved in many extracurricular activities such as International Summer Universities (ISU), Alternative Spring Break program, salsa dancing, traveling, and singing in her church choir. She is also fluent in English and Portuguese, and is proficient in Spanish, French, and German.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to work at a financial institution in the investments field in Boston, preferably for a few years to gain practical, real-world experience. However, my true calling in life is to teach. I will eventually pursue a doctorate in finance and become a finance professor, potentially at UMass Dartmouth.
What have you learned about experiences with other students?
It's difficult working with others in group settings, but it’s all about communication and having the right attitude to motivate each other and produce work efficiently and in agreement.
Who are your favorite professors or staff members?
Sokratis Koumas, my boss at the Math and Business Center. He’s someone that I not only respect, but has become a mentor and a great friend. Also, a great inspirational professor is Matthew Roy. I learned many ways to manage people in the workplace as well as leadership qualities in his Organizational Behavior class, MGT 311. And lastly, Michael Baum, a great political science professor who I went to Portugal with for the study abroad program. Lots of fun!
What advice do you have for incoming freshmen?
Have an open mind, take all the opportunities offered to you, and look at school as an adventure!
