UMass Dartmouth provides an outstanding, world-class education for a reasonable cost. My son graduated with honors from this school in 2009, and he loved it. The professors are some of the most committed and dedicated individuals you'll meet. Most will go out of their way to make sure you get what you need to do well here.
And, of course, the campus's diversity is second to none—so many interesting individuals with unique perspectives on life; it's like a mini-world all in one place.
Get to know your professors—they really do have your best interests at heart, and they want you to succeed.
And remember to take time for yourself. Stresses are everywhere, so plan some quiet time or get away by yourself whenever you can to unwind. Walking around the campus does a body good.
I'd like to thank my teachers and professors who instructed me and opened my eyes to the reality of what teaching really entails, especially professors Emmanuel Fernandez, Joao Rosa, and Armand Desmarais. These were the best professors I've ever had—they made the learning real and fun.
Also, the TEACH! program director, Tyra Lopes, and her program specialist, Joanne Mendes, without whose unfailing faith, encouragement, and support, I may have quit the program. When I was exhausted and unsure of myself, both these lovely ladies kept me strong and encouraged me to keep going. I feel they went out of their way to see me succeed, and our friendships continue to thrive to this day. I will be forever indebted to them.
Finally, the ladies in the Enrollment Center deserve my thanks, as well. If they were ever tired of hearing the same questions asked repeatedly, they never showed it. My questions were always answered quickly, thoroughly, and politely as though I was their only customer! Bravo, ladies!
