"I want to continue working in the nonprofit field and to work with young adults who want to make a difference in their community."
To seek a position within a local, state, or national service program and develop corps members’ interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills to help them create a positive impact in the communities they serve.
For my graduate assistantship, I was involved with the LEADS program (Leadership for Educational Attainment Developed through Service) as a corps member and team leader. University students like myself, known as Commonwealth Corps members, worked with middle school and high school students in Fall River and New Bedford to work on leadership skills through service-learning projects such as creating sustainability webpages, healthy living videos, building community gardens, and food pantries. The experience has solidified my career path—I want to continue working in the nonprofit field and to work with young adults who want to make a difference in their community.
Get involved! There are lots of things to do and many different organizations to join. From intramural sports like softball and adventurous outdoor clubs to leadership and civic engagement opportunities, there are plenty of activities to be involved in.
I want to thank my family for supporting me. I'm grateful for Dr. Matthew Roy in the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement for offering me an assistantship and Deirdre Healy for recommending the right program for me: Public Policy.
Most importantly I want to thank my wife Jordan, for not only supporting me, but encouraging me to go back to school to get my master's degree. I've appreciated her help and patience these past two years. I'm very blessed to have her as a partner!
