"I've learned that I should never stop asking questions, especially about my own practice. My education will not end with the receipt of a graduate diploma."
Tell us about something you were involved with here and how it's changed you.
I was blessed to have a graduate assistantship through the Art Education department for the past two years. Through that assistantship, I met some of the best people in the world--my students at Nativity Preparatory School in New Bedford.
Many people would not imagine that students in the fifth through eighth grade could make an impact on their lives. However, each of these students were, and still are, a constant inspiration.
What have you learned from other students?
The plethora of knowledge that can be acquired from others is amazing. Students in my field are no exception. The constant communication, sharing of resources, and support that I both received and gave to my colleagues made my graduate experience richer.
What have you learned that's made a difference for you?
I have learned that I should never stop asking questions, especially about my own practice. My education will not end with the receipt of a graduate diploma.
What advice would you like to share with future students?
The most important advice that I could give future graduate students is to just breathe. When you feel like you cannot type one more word or study one more phenomenon, remember how far you've come and how far you will be able to go.
Who would you like to thank?
First of all, if it wasn't for the encouragement of my parents, Pamela Leon and Lisa Little, I would not have made it this far. Their gentle nudges helped guide me to where I am.
Without the constant support of my advisor, Dr. Cathy Smilan, the chair of the Art Education department, Dr. Kathy Miraglia, and the entire staff at the Academic Advising Center, my educational experience would have never been as fulfilling.
Last, but definitely not least, to my brother, Nick Leon, my best friends, Jamie Caudill and Jaclyn Miles, and my love, Todd Brelsford: without them to lean on, my sanity would've been lost long ago.
