"There is far more to a college career than simply acquiring an education. It's an opportunity to discover who you are as an individual . . . to develop personally and professionally both inside and outside of the classroom."
What do you plan to do after graduation?
Following the awarding of my degree this May, I plan to pursue a career in event planning and eventually hotel hospitality management. The combination of the education I received from my degree in management and the experience acquired from my involvement on campus throughout the past four years has been a truly rewarding and developing experience that has undoubtedly prepared me for life beyond graduation.
What organizations did you belong to at UMass Dartmouth?
My employment as a student manager in the department of Technical Services for the last four years has been a truly gratifying experience. Having a direct role in the planning, execution, and management of student and faculty events has proven a fulfilling way to become involved here on campus. My involvement in Technical Services inspired me to form the student organization Concert Tech to enrich the university community with live music performances while providing the members of the organization an opportunity to learn and develop the knowledge and skills required to successfully generate and facilitate live productions.
What advice would you like to share with future students?
There is far more to a college career than simply acquiring an education. It's an opportunity to discover who you are as an individual. It's an opportunity to develop personally and professionally both inside and outside of the classroom. It's an opportunity to experience and learn from your mistakes. More importantly, it's an opportunity to become involved. UMass Dartmouth has over a hundred student organizations, fraternities, sororities, and co-curricular academic programs. I encourage each and every student to discover yourself through one of these organizations. Each of us has the prospect to achieve great things and become great, and student organizations are the ideal outlet for accomplishing the goals and desires we all possess.
Who would you like to thank?
The faculty and staff here at UMass Dartmouth are truly amazing individuals. I have been fortunate in having had the opportunity to directly or indirectly work with many of the professionals here at the University. First and foremost, I would like to recognize and thank the staff of the department of Campus Services, including the Technical Services Manager Greg Paciulan and Associate Director Derek Costa for acting as both mentors and friends throughout my experience here at the University. Throughout the past few years, I have frequently expressed my appreciation for my involvement in student events and accordingly would like to also extend my gratitude towards both the Director and Assistant Director of the Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership office for their continuous dedication to the students of our university and their belief in and support of my ventures here as a student. Lastly I would like to recognize and thank all of the faculty and staff who have contributed towards my development both inside and outside of the classroom.
