"Get involved! . . . Do not let an opportunity to meet your future best friend, your future spouse, or a future job be dismissed because you didn't get involved."

What organizations have you belonged to?
I would have to say that joining the brotherhood of Theta Delta Chi has changed my life completely. I have become brothers with many people, participated in philanthropies, and it has pushed me to get involved on this campus. They have been there for me and will be there till the end. I am so thankful for what I have contributed to Theta Delta Chi in my four years here, and I'm even more excited to see where they will be in the future.
What have you learned at UMass Dartmouth that has made a difference to you?
I have learned that being negative is the worst state anyone could be in. If something happens that is not in your favor, you need to think positive and move on. Being extremely angry or having hatred will not change anything, it will only poison you and make your life less enjoyable. Just remember to be positive and that life will be moving on whether you like it or not
What has been your greatest challenge?
I would have to say the biggest challenge I've had in my four years here at UMass Dartmouth was during my junior year. I had been involved in many organizations, had a job, played a sport, was entering one of the most challenging academic years as a nursing student, and also had to deal with writing a victim impact statement about my father who was murdered 15 years ago, and dealing with the death of a teammate. This was so challenging, and I didn't know if I was going to make it, but I did with the help of my fraternity brothers, friends, staff, and members of the many organizations on campus, and I am thankful for that. It if wasn't for them, I don't know how I would have made it.
Do you have a message for future students?
Get involved! I cannot express it enough that getting involved via a Greek organization, sports team, or any student facilitated organization could change you life. Do not let an opportunity to meet your future best friend, your future spouse, or a future job be dismissed because you didn't get involved. We are here for our education, but I believe we are also here to open our minds, experience new things, and view other people's beliefs to better ourselves. I also believe that it is a MUST to travel abroad; whether during the summer or during the semester, it can be done and, as far as I am concerned, must be done during your undergrad experience; it was life-changing for me.
Who would you like to thank?
I would like to thank my mom and my grandmother for pushing me, my brothers of Theta Delta Chi for supporting me in all my endeavors and making my four years that much better, the swimming and diving team for being there with me in and out of the pool, the Peer Health Educators for all the hard work we have done with students, the Greek community for being positive role models for the UMass Dartmouth community, my resident assistant staffs and resident directors for developing me into the leader I am today. Lastly, I would like to thank Beth-Anne Vieira, Christopher Laib, and Jesse Correia for believing in me and being there for me throughout my four years here.
