"Away from the noise of busy cities, this is the place every student should want: a peaceful academic atmosphere."
What makes UMass Dartmouth special?
Compared to other schools, UMass Dartmouth has a serene atmosphere. Away from the noise of busy cities, this is the place every student should want: a peaceful academic atmosphere.

What's your favorite spot on campus and why?

My favorite spot on campus is the amphitheater behind the Claire T. Carney Library. Even when it's covered with snow, its steps remind me of the path to success. I can already hear the echoes of applause from my family and friends for all my accomplishments at commencement in May 2011.

Who's your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Jan Bergandy, chairperson of the CIS department, is my academic and project advisor, and my favorite professor at UMass Dartmouth. Dr. Bergandy is cool, calm and composed—his smile makes you believe that anything is possible and his compassion for his students allows complete trust. He communicates on the students' level and his short but conversant meetings encourage creativity. I feel very lucky to have guidance from such a learned person.

Tell us about an opportunity you've had here at UMass Dartmouth?

Working as a graduate IT assistant with the CITS professional staff has not only allowed me to interact with different professors and staff on campus, it's also given me the opportunity to provide them with technical support. This job improved my customer service skills and enhanced my software and technical skills. The student co-workers here are lovely people, and I will always cherish the memories I've made with them.
