"Education is the most important thing you can give yourself."
What do you plan do to after graduation?
Following graduation, I plan on pursuing my master's degree here at UMD, and then participating in the NOYCE scholars program for students dedicated to teaching science, math and engineering.
After that, I plan on changing the world by teaching chemistry to high school students.
What advice would you like to share with future students?
Make friends with classmates and the people around you, but don't forget to make friends with professors, too! You'll be surprised at how human they seem when you take away the tests, homework, and mountains of reading they assign.
It is their job to teach, and more often than not they are more than happy to help you. Who knows? Maybe you can become friends with them!
What have you learned that's made a difference for you?
Education is the most important thing you can give yourself.
What has been your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge was learning how to manage my time and prioritize school and work. I had to learn to put school first because that was what I was paying for, and to put work aside.
Who would you like to thank?
I'd like to thank my family, and especially my mother. Without her, I would not have been able to have the courage to challenge myself and get to where I am today.
I'd also like to thank Dr. Emmanuel Ojadi, who was my mentor and most unexpected friend, who encouraged me to think outside the box, and Dr. Dills, who inspired me in 4th grade to become a chemist.
