"UMass Dartmouth is what you make of it. I decided to get involved on campus, and it opened up so many doors for me."

What made you decide to run for class president?
I was involved with student senate and offices when I was in high school. It’s something I enjoyed and I wanted to continue doing, so I figured there could be bigger opportunities and more community services programs in college. As a commuter my freshman year, I didn’t think anyone knew me, but I ended up getting a position as class treasurer. And then I ran for class president my sophomore, junior, and senior year.
What are your main responsibilities as senior class president?
It’s basically fundraising—raising funds for senior week, which is typically the week leading up to graduation.
What kinds of things do you do during senior week?
Well, we wanted to go to Vegas this year, but we got a lot of feedback saying it was too expensive—but at least we tried to offer something new. We’re going to stay local, which was the general consensus. We’re looking into a Boston Red Sox game right now. In the past, they’ve done bar crawls, a Newport lobster bake, and just fun local things.
What’s your favorite spot on campus and why?
I love the amphitheater next to the library. It’s a great spot, and very quiet and serene. It’s a nice getaway with a cup of tea!
What advice do you have for incoming students?
I guess I would say to challenge yourself in a different way, and try to join one other group on campus. You’ll meet different people, and have an outlet besides classes. Also, you’ll be able to network yourself and have other opportunities arise.
