"One of my goals for my college career was to get involved as much as my schedule could handle. I felt it would give me the skills to succeed in life."

Tell us about something you’re involved with here. How has it changed you?
The one thing that I’m most proud of is becoming a founding sister of the Iota Delta Nu sorority. Between myself and seven other sisters, we created something that will last. This is not only a support system for ourselves, but for all girls who decide to join our group. There was a lot of hard work and dedication that went into creating Iota Delta Nu. There were roadblocks along the way, but we learned to overcome them to make something great.
Tell us about a great experience or opportunity you’ve had here at UMass Dartmouth.
Being a Resident Assistant for two years (and my third year as an Assistant Resident Director) has prepared me for the future. I've been able to help students with their problems, and I've been able to better myself. Most students look at RA's as the enemy, but I think I’ve been able to become their friend—someone who they can come talk to. This experience has taught me a lot about how to deal with people from a crime and justice perspective, and through this I hope to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my job when I get out of college.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
I’ve been an orientation leader for the past two years, and I find myself giving new students the same advice time after time: I tell them to get involved. A lot of the success that comes out of this school has to do with how much effort students put into making their time here what it should be. Getting involved doesn't mean they need to pack their schedules with everything they possibly can. It means they should find at least one thing they really enjoy, and immerse themselves into it.
