"Academic success comes from truly knowing yourself as a student: know your capabilities and strengths, and work to improve everything else."
What organizations did you belong to at UMass Dartmouth?
For the past three years, while pursuing my master's degree in professional writing, I've served as UMass Dartmouth's associate women's lacrosse coach. I played on the lacrosse team while an undergraduate here, so I was excited to be able to continue my interest in the sport and the team. Being the coach for these young women has taught me more about myself than any class ever could.
I learned to overcome any difficulty that may present itself while working both within--and as a leader of--a team. I also discovered how positive reinforcement and constructive criticism can motivate a team to perform above and beyond expectations.
What makes UMass Dartmouth special?
When I first chose UMass Dartmouth to further my education, I thought the architecture made it special, but it's really what's inside--the people--that makes UMass Dartmouth extraordinary.
I made truly amazing friends while in the Professional Writing Program, and their support played an essential role in my success.
What advice would you like to share with future students?
Academic success comes from truly knowing yourself as a student: know your capabilities and strengths, and work to improve everything else.
Stay positive and always believe in yourself.
Who would you like to thank?
I'd like to express my gratitude to my parents, who support me in everything I do and every decision I make. They inspire me to become a better person and to always believe in myself.
