Major: Marine Biology

Academic Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Westport, MA

"In the future, I hope to explore the many mysteries surrounding deep ocean life. It’s amazing to think that more people have gone out into space than have dived into the deep ocean."

How does your major fit into your life’s plan?
Right now my major is marine biology, and I couldn't have picked anything better. I love ocean life and no one can say there’s anything better than spending a day at the beach with family and friends. It’s my goal to one day be able to study these marine ecosystems, and to ultimately better understand them and protect their beauty.
What's your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is definitely the library. Ok, call me a nerd, but I love to spend hours in the library, whether cramming for a test, or waiting for my next class with friends. It’s a great place to meet new people, as well as to get away from all the stress and relax.
What's your plan for after graduation?
My plans after graduation are to continue my education at graduate school and hopefully receive a doctorate in marine biology.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to take every opportunity you can and enjoy what UMass Dartmouth has to offer you. There are so many great clubs and events to attend, leading to great experiences and new friendships. I’m not saying to go to every movie or game the night before a big test, but set aside some time for yourself to relax…you’re going to need it.
