Fall Farmers Markets at UMass Dartmouth are a recent addition to our campus sustainability work. Launched in 2007 through the initiative of a motivated undergraduate student, Ellie Early, the Farmers Market was seen as a way to support local agriculture, provide our campus community access to fresh, delicious produce, and an opportunity to continue educating about the connections between food and sustainability.

Held Fridays in September and October on the patio outside the Campus Center, the 2007 and 2008 Farmers Markets offered a taste of locally grown fruits and organic vegetables as well as fair-trade wares and baked goods. Outreach to the campus community was also expanded in 2008 thanks to the help of a class of UMass Dartmouth Design students, who designed a collection of eye-catching posters to advertise the market.

The 2009 Fall Farmers Market will continue to build on the success of the last two years, providing a taste of the local Autumn bounty, supporting our local growers, and building awareness of the value - and great taste- of locally-grown food.

For more information about participating in the UMass Dartmouth Fall Farmers Market please contact Kathleen Christianson at 508-910-6484 or kchristianson@umassd.edu.
