Timeline for freshman applicants

September/October

  • Take your Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Make sure your test scores are sent to UMass Dartmouth (CEEB code 3786)
  • Ask your teacher and/or guidance counselor to write you a letter of recommendation (optional)
  • Begin writing a draft of your application essay (optional)
  • Visit UMass Dartmouth and take a campus tour
  • Attend a fall Open House to pick up application materials, learn about academic programs and campus life, and see the campus

November

  • Complete application for admission; apply online or use a printed application
  • Collect your letters of recommendation
  • At the end of the first quarter, request an official copy of your high school transcript
  • Complete the final draft of your essay, and ask a teacher or guidance counselor to read it over one last time
  • Receive your copy of SAT scores from the College Board

December

Mail your application packet and/or appropriate supporting materials (if you've applied online):

  • Application for admission (be sure to sign it)
  • Application fee ($40 in-state, $60 out-of-state, non-refundable); you'll pay with a credit card online or with a check if you mail your application
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • TOEFL scores for international students
  • Official high school transcript
  • Personal essay (optional)
  • Letters of recommendation (optional)

January/February

  • File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon after January 1 as possible. If you have questions regarding financial aid, visit the Financial Aid web site or call 508-999-8643
  • You can check on your acceptance status online
  • When you are accepted, you will receive an acceptance package from the Office of Undergraduate Admission
  • When you have decided to attend UMass Dartmouth, we request a non-refundable $200 tuition deposit (or $400 if you are also requesting housing). This deposit should be sent as soon as possible before May 1

March/April

  • Attend a UMass Dartmouth Discovery Day program and meet your college's dean, faculty, and students
  • Receive invitation for placement testing in April and May

April/May

  • Complete and return your campus housing contract
  • Take your writing and math placement tests

June/July

August

  • Enjoy the summer!
