Upward Bound

Prospective Scholars

Applications for admission to UB for the 2007-2008 will close May 30, 2008. The next recruitment will be in the Fall of 2008.

While UMass Dartmouth UB is not currently recruiting new students, you may download recruitment materials for your reference. Who May Apply to Upward Bound?

Students in their second semester of their 8th grade year as well as students in 9th and 10th grades who attend UB target schools, are in good academic standing and are seriously considering attending college may apply to the program if they and their parents or guardians meet federal income and educational guidelines. (Two-thirds of our students must meet both criteria; one-third may meet one or the other but not both.) To be educationally eligible, the parent(s) with whom the student lives cannot have a degree from a four-year college. While the income information for our next recruitment period will be updated before our next recruitment period, the most recent income guidelines are below:

Exemptions = $3,200 per person
Deductions = $5,000 Single / $7,300 Head of Household / $10,000 Married Filing Jointly or Qualifying Widow(er)

When and how should I apply?

Recruiting takes place throughout the Academic School Year. See your guidance counselor for a pass to attend the Upward Bound informational session in your school. Teachers, guidance counselors, parents, and community members can also refer students to Upward Bound.

Once we've determined that you are eligible to apply (refer to UB Student Application above), you will need to complete an application and get a teacher recommendation. Strong candidates will be interviewed by two Upward Bound representatives in the Upward Bound Office. Students are notified within two to three weeks from the date of interview as to whether or not they have been accepted into the program.
