7/31 Western Pacific - Tropical Storm Soudelor

Tropical Storm Soudelor is located 581 miles east of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands.  The system is moving west at 9 mph bringing maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and gusts of 50 mph.

The system will continue to strengthen over the next 2 - 3 days, potentially attaining typhoon status by the time it passes over the Northern Mariana Islands on Sunday.

Although Soudelor is not expected to make landfall, it could still bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Northern Mariana Islands through August 3.

Flight disruptions are likely at Saipan (SPN) and Guam (GUM) international airports from late Saturday night through Monday.

Next week, Soudelor could potentially impact Taiwan, southwestern Japan and eastern China.

Travelers are advised to contact their airline in advance of departure to confirm flight status.
