The COVID Sanitizing teams consist of student employees tasked with supporting the University’s effort to operate in the safest possible manner under the COVID pandemic. This group falls under the Administration and Finance Department. Job duties include
  • Cleaning and disinfecting high-use, high touch points across campus, including classrooms, lecture halls, labs, auditoriums, lounge spaces, public spaces, general assembly areas, and common areas
  • Manage the distribution of cleaning and disinfecting supplies to classrooms, offices, individuals, etc. Requests will come into this group, supplies retrieved and then distributed to the requestor
  • Install and maintain COVID required and related signage across campus
  • Restock and maintain hand sanitizing stations and dispensers across campus

Training Provided by Environmental Health and Safety

Amy Pacheco of Environmental Health and Safety hosted a training via Zoom outlining safe and effective use of cleaning checmicals, mask and social distancing protocols, and safety glove procedures. All student staff was in attendance at this training or viewed the training video.

Training Provided Facilities

Facilities provided training regarding locations of water-fill closets and provided the process for mixing the diluted chemicals into the spray bottles.

Disinfecting Procedure

DB #9 Neutral Disinfectant Cleaner 256 RTU: For use as a general, hospital, medical disinfectant, fungicide, viruside, and cleaner.

Disinfecting procedure: 

  1. Pre-clean heavily soiled areas.
  2. Apply use solution of 0.5 oz. of this product per gal. of water to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces with a sponge, brush, cloth, mop, or mechanical spray device. For spray applications, spray 6-8 inches from surface. Do not breathe spray.
  3. Treated surfaces must remain wet for 10 minutes.
  4. Wipe dry with a clean cloth or allow to air dry. Rinsing of floors is not necessary unless they are to be waxed or polished.
  5. Prepare a fresh solution daily or when visibly dirty.

Health & Safety Requirements

All COVID Sanitizing Team members are required to wear PPE, including face coverings and eye/face protection. Students have been instructed to wash hands thoroughly after handling checmicals.
