Alan Hoffman

The Boivin Center for French Language and Culture at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth proudly announces its first program of the spring semester featuring Alan Hoffman on Monday, March 6^th, 2017 in the Grand Reading Room of the Claire T. Carney Library at 4 PM.

Alan Hoffman received a B.A. degree in history from Yale University and J.D. from Harvard Law School. He has practiced law in Boston for over 40 years. An avid reader of early American history, he became fascinated with Marquis de Lafayette. From 2003 to 2005, he translated Lafayette in America 1824-1825 written by Lafayette’s private secretary, Auguste Levasseur, who accompanied the General during his visit.

The journal details how the beloved hero of the American Revolution was welcomed by Americans. It speaks of his reunion with the Founding Fathers and addresses slave and Native American issues. The lecture will be a power point presentation on Lafayette’s travels through America.

Attorney Hoffman is the president of the American Friends of Lafayette and the Massachusetts Lafayette Society.

A Q&A, book signing and light reception will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available on campus in Lot 13.
